Recognizing the Signs of a Mental Health Crisis

Intense feelings of hopelessness or despair: Feeling like there's no way out or that life is meaningless.
Suicidal thoughts or behaviors: Thinking about or planning to harm oneself, or actively seeking means to do so.
Sudden withdrawal from loved ones: Isolating oneself from family, friends, or activities once enjoyed.
Erratic or risky behavior: Acting impulsively, engaging in dangerous activities, or exhibiting uncharacteristic behavior.
Extreme mood swings: Drastic changes in mood, from extreme highs to deep lows.
Feeling trapped: Experiencing overwhelming fear, anxiety, or feelings of being stuck with no solution.

What to Do If You Are in Crisis

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, this should not be taken lightly. Talking to another person, preferably a professional is the first step in receiving help. Speaking to a doctor, counselor, pastor or close family friend may be the first place you turn. However, if you are having thoughts of harming yourself in the immediate or near future, please call the National Suicide Hot-line at 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433), call 911 or go the Emergency Room of the nearest hospital.

You can also call 988:

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides free and confidential support for anyone experiencing a suicidal, mental health, and/or substance use crisis.

People of all ages who need help for themselves or a loved one can call, text, or chat 24/7.
