EMDR

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of psychotherapy designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories.

EMDR therapy helps you heal by guiding your brain to reprocess traumatic memories, making them less distressing. During sessions, a therapist asks you to recall a painful memory while following their hand movements with your eyes. This bilateral stimulation, which can also include tapping or sounds, helps your brain work through the trauma, reducing its emotional impact. Over time, this process helps you feel less affected by the trauma and improves your overall emotional well-being.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of psychotherapy designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR is based on the idea that trauma can overwhelm the brain's natural ability to process experiences, leaving individuals with unresolved emotional wounds.During EMDR sessions, a therapist guides the client through a series of bilateral stimulation exercises, typically involving guided eye movements, but sometimes using taps or auditory tones. This process is believed to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional impact and allowing for healthier cognitive integration.
