Telehealth

What is telehealth?

Telehealth is a way to receive counseling services via video call or phone call. Instead of going to a therapist office or clinic, you can talk to your therapist provider from home using your computer, smartphone, or tablet. This makes it easier and more convenient to get  therapy services without needing to travel. It is a great resource for people with busy schedules who can’t always get into a therapist’s office or if the commute time to the office would be too long.

Our telehealth services can be provided if you reside in the state of Indiana. If you live in Illinois and would like telehealth services, please let our office receptionist know and she will schedule you with one out therapist who is also licensed in Illinois.

Privacy:

We know some people may be concerned about possible limits to privacy through telehealth services. At Samaritan Center we do everything we can to ensure your privacy and confidentiality while using telehealth. We use a HIPPA complaint platform for our calls and the therapist will ensure that he or she is in a private setting during your call.

Some of the things we suggest to ensure privacy for telehealth are:

  • Say it’s a work call that you need privacy for

  • Order a sound machine on Amazon

  • Using earbuds so the therapist can’t be heard

  • Allow for “extra screen time” (for kiddos) during the session

Is telehealth counseling for me?

Telehealth can be beneficial for many people. If you need help developing coping skills to manage anxiety, stress, or depression, learn how to manage challenges in your relationships or simply need support through life's difficult circumstances, telehealth can be a great option. However, if you are experiencing more acute symptom, are in a crisis or cannot ensure a sense of privacy, in person counseling services will be better suited.

How do I know if my insurance plan covers telehealth services?

To date, all insurance plans cover telehealth services. If you are interested in scheduling a telehealth session, please contact our office at 219-923-8110 or via email at samaritancenter@sbcglobal,net to check telehealth benefits.

What are the costs for telehealth services?

Your out-of-pocket cost will be the same, or less than in-person psychiatry or mental health services.  Clients will still be required to pay co-pays or co-insurance charges at the time of service, as well as deductibles.

How do I pay my copay if I don't go into an office?

Samaritan Center can take your copay charge over the phone.

What technical capabilities are required for telehealth services?

Telehealth sessions can be conducted via phone or video conferencing using your computer.  Telehealth sessions would ideally be done utilizing computer video capabilities to mimic the face-to-face experience of sessions, but providers can conduct sessions via phone if video capabilities are limited.

What are the next steps once a Telehealth session is scheduled?

You will receive an email from the provider with instructions on how to join a meeting. The therapist will send the email after intake paperwork and telehealth consent form have been completed.
